  • 2 Timothy 4:7
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

There comes a point in any long journey of faith — and especially in a 21-day walking challenge — where something shifts.
Not in your legs… but in your heart

    Under the Palm Tree™ Devotional

Some days we stride with purpose.
Other days we drag ourselves out the door, pour coffee like medicine, and whisper, “Lord… I don’t know how much I have left to give today.”

    If that’s you — you’re not alone.

🌿 The Race That Refines Us

Paul writes that he has “kept the faith,” but he doesn’t pretend the race was easy.
    Faith is fought for.
    Endurance is battled for.
    Perseverance is shaped through resistance.

Walking with God is often less like a gentle stroll and more like a long-distance race where our strength runs out, but His never does.

    That’s where refinement begins.

    Ruth understood this too.
She didn’t step into a peaceful season — she stepped into grief, loss, uncertainty, and unfamiliar territory.
    Yet she stayed faithful.
    She kept walking.
She clung to God even when she didn’t have clarity.

Ruth’s entire story is one long testimony of a woman refined.

    🌿 A Moment of Honesty

When I look back at those early years of motherhood — 36 years ago now — I can barely recognize the woman I was. I was young, and my stomach lived in a constant knot. I worked full time, hurried from daycare pickups to weekend outings, and shouldered everything on my own. I became a single mother before my baby was even a year old. Somewhere in that whirlwind, I whispered a promise to God that I would give my child all I had—every ounce of love, strength, and devotion.

What I didn’t know back then—and only recognize now—is that my wholehearted devotion should have begun with God. Not because He demanded anything from me, but because without Him I was running on empty: fear, pressure, and survival mode. I adored my child… but I carried the weight like a woman unaware that she, too, was held.

    Grief refined me.
    Motherhood refined me.
    Life refined me.
And in every season, God shaped me — slowly, gently — into a woman who sees differently now.

    🌿 When Tears Become Prayers

Sometimes refinement comes through moments when the tears sit so deep in your chest you can hardly breathe.
    When your prayers feel wordless.
When exhaustion presses against your ribs.

    Scripture tells us:

“The Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
    — Romans 8:26

    Even when we cannot pray,
even when we do not know how,
God still bends low to carry us.

This is what makes you refined —
    not perfection,
    not strength,
    not accomplishment…

but your willingness to keep walking when life asks more than you think you have to give.

🌿 You Are Stronger Than You Know

If you are reading this on Day 27,
    you have done something holy:

    You have kept going.

You have walked through days when your heart was heavy.
You have walked through days when your mind was loud.
You have walked through days when your spirit was weary.

    And yet… here you are.

    This is refinement.
    This is faith.
    This is transformation.

You are becoming a woman who finishes the race —
    not in your own strength,
    but in His.

    🌿 Walking Prompt for Today

    Walk slowly and gently.
    Breathe deeply.
    Pray this with each step:

    “Lord, refine me.
    Strengthen me.
    Walk with me.”

Let your walk become a soft offering,
a reminder that God meets you in every step you take.

    🌿 Reflection

Where has God refined you through motherhood, hardship, loss, or seasons where you carried too much alone?

What part of your story looks different in hindsight because grace was shaping you?

    🌿 Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You for refining me through the hardest and holiest parts of life.
Thank You for walking with me in the seasons I felt overwhelmed, unseen, or unsure.
    Strengthen my steps.
    Purify my heart.
Teach me to give You the 100% that I once tried to manage alone.
Refine me into a woman who keeps the faith —
and finishes the race with You beside me.
    Amen.

    🌴

Keeping the faith, finishing the race,

  • 🌴 A Woman Refined: Ruth’s Story of Suffering, Awakening, and Grace

    Under the Palm Tree™ Devotional

When Ruth chose loyalty over comfort and faithfulness over fear, God guided her into a season of refinement. Loss humbled her. Labor strengthened her. Loneliness softened her. And by the time Boaz appeared in her story, she wasn’t a young girl searching for affection—she was a woman ready for godly covering, gentle protection, and mature love. Boaz didn’t rescue her. God prepared her. Their union worked because she had been refined enough to recognize a man whose kindness reflected the Father’s heart.

🌿 The Chaos of Life Today

Life today is loud and overwhelming.
There are days when the grocery store feels like a battlefield, where carts collide, tempers flare, and people hurry through the aisles without looking up.
There are afternoons when traffic stretches endlessly, horns honk impatiently, and even the gentlest person feels pressure rising in their chest.

It’s no wonder so many women feel hurried, exhausted, and stretched thin.

Yet Scripture shows us that God often uses these very moments to refine us — the ordinary pressures, the unexpected irritations, the hidden stress that lives inside our bodies and hearts.

Refinement rarely happens in quiet comfort.
Most often, it happens in chaos.

And that is exactly where Ruth’s story meets ours.

    🌿 Ruth’s Suffering — The Numb Beginning

Ruth knew suffering more deeply than most of us ever will.

    She lost her husband young.
    She lost her home.
She lost her culture, her stability, her identity.

Grief in its earliest days is numb.
It sits heavy in the chest.
It silences the mind, steals the breath, and freezes the soul.

    Ruth lived in that numbness.

Anyone who has walked through grief understands this part deeply —
the shock, the stillness, the quiet ache that doesn’t even have words yet.

🌿 When Grief Awakens — Ruth’s Turning Point

But something sacred happens in Ruth 1:16–17.
    Something shifts.

When Naomi tells Ruth to go back to her old life —
to return home, to start over, to leave the pain behind —
    Ruth refuses.

This is the moment her grief awakens.

Her numb grief becomes active grief — grief that chooses, grief that clings, grief that steps forward instead of collapsing inward.

“Where you go, I will go… your God will be my God.”
    Ruth 1:16

    This was loyalty.
    This was obedience.
This was strength rising from sorrow.

    This was refinement beginning.

🌿 Refinement Through the Hardest Lessons

Ruth walked into a future she didn’t understand.
Her suffering didn’t disappear — it was reshaping her.

    Loss softened her.
    Hard work humbled her.
    Loneliness deepened her empathy.
    Waiting developed her patience.
Grief carved out space for God to do something new.

And this — this deep shaping — is something most women never experience, because refinement requires:

    ✔ endurance
    ✔ surrender
    ✔ humility
    ✔ loyalty
    ✔ trust in God’s timing

    Ruth chose all of these.

🌿 Finding God in Tears Too Deep to Breathe

Using the hardest lessons to refine Ruth’s heart is something I can certainly relate to.

There are seasons when the tears sit so deep in your chest that you can hardly breathe.
When grief or disappointment tightens around your heart, and you don’t even know what to pray or how to begin.

    Those waves come without warning.
    They take your breath.
    They shake your confidence.
They leave you numb and aching.

    Ruth knew that place.
    And God met her there.

    Scripture tells us:

“We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
    Romans 8:26

When we cannot speak, God speaks for us.
When we cannot hold ourselves together, He holds us.
When we cannot breathe through the pain, He breathes over us.

🌿 Our Present Suffering Has Purpose

    Paul writes:

“Our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed.”
    Romans 8:18

    And again:

“Our momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal weight of glory…”
    2 Corinthians 4:17

Ruth lived this truth before it was written.

    Her tears were not wasted.
    Her pain was not pointless.
Her loss became the soil where redemption grew.

Everything she endured was preparing her — refining her — for the blessing God had already planned.

    🌿 Reflection Question

Where in your life right now is God refining you — through stress, tears, waiting, or the quiet places where you feel unseen?

    🌿 Closing Prayer

Lord, you see the places where my heart feels numb, heavy, or overwhelmed.
You hear the prayers I cannot form and the tears that sit too deep for words.
Refine me through these hard places, just as You refined Ruth.
    Awaken purpose in my grief.
    Shape my heart with grace.
Give me strength for the ordinary pressures and courage for the uncertain days.
Teach me to recognize Your kindness, your timing, and your steady hand guiding me forward.
Make me a woman refined by Your love.
    Amen.

Strength for today, grace for tomorrow,
    — Stephanie

  • 📖 Psalm 55:22

“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”

    🌿 Reflection –

Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and as 2025 comes to a close, many of us feel anything but peaceful.
It might be the 100 emails waiting for replies, the voicemail you’re avoiding, the dinner that’s running late again, or the kids bickering because they are exhausted from after-school activities.

Some days feel like a marathon you didn’t sign up for.

Yet Psalm 55:22 meets us right inside that chaos.
God doesn’t wait for your life to quiet down before He offers rest —
He invites you to hand Him every burden right in the middle of it.

    Casting your cares isn’t a one-time event.
    It’s a rhythm… a practice… sometimes an hourly surrender.

And when we release what we were never meant to carry, He sustains us —
    not by removing every stress,
but by strengthening us to walk through it with peace that doesn’t make sense.

God’s peace doesn’t require perfect circumstances.
    It only requires trust.

🚶‍♀️ Walking Prompt – “Strength for the Journey”

    📖 1 Timothy 4:8

“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things…”

Take your cares outside today — even if it’s just down the driveway.
Feel the air on your face.
Let your steps slow your breathing.

As you walk, remember this truth:

    Physical movement strengthens the body.
    Spiritual practice strengthens the soul.
Together, they prepare you for the week ahead.

    With every step, say:
“Lord, I cast this burden on You.”
    Name one.
    Release it.
    Keep walking.

This simple rhythm — step, breathe, release — can change the entire tone of your day and your week.

    💬 Reflection Question

What burden have I been carrying that God is asking me to place back into His hands?

    🙏 Prayer

Lord, you see the pressures I face and the weight I carry.
Teach me to cast my cares on You again and again.
Strengthen my body, steady my mind, and anchor my heart as I walk into the final days of this year.
Thank You for sustaining me in every season.
    Amen.

    🌿 Reflection – “A Bowl of Peace”

Butternut squash soup has a way of slowing a day down.
It’s warm, simple, and comforting — much like the peace God offers when life feels rushed or overwhelmed.

Peace doesn’t always come loud or dramatic.
    Often, it arrives quietly…
    like a simmering pot,
    a soft kitchen glow,
or a meal shared with someone you love.

Let this bowl remind you that God meets you in the ordinary moments —
the busy evenings, the tired afternoons, the hurried holidays —
bringing warmth where the world brings worry.

    🙏 Gratitude Prayer

Lord, thank You for the simple gifts — warm meals, quiet evenings, and your steady presence in my home. Help me taste Your goodness in small things and carry Your peace into the week ahead.
    Amen.

  • Gratitude & Thankfulness

    📖 Scripture: James 1:17

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

    📖 Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:18

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

    🌿 Reflection – Gratitude & Thankfulness

Gratitude doesn’t always come easily — especially during times of struggles. The rush of the holidays.
Between family schedules, financial strain, and the pressure to make everything perfect, the joy of the season can quickly fade into exhaustion.

But gratitude is not about pretending everything is fine. It’s about inviting God into what isn’t.
True thankfulness is not the denial of difficulty — it’s the decision to trust that even here, even now, God is working for good.

Every sunrise, every breath, every moment of peace — these are reminders that the Father of heavenly lights still gives perfect gifts.
When we stop long enough to notice them, gratitude becomes a way of breathing, a way of being.

So if you feel weary, pause.
Look for the Holy Spirit in the middle of the mess — the quiet whisper that says, “You are not alone.”
Because gratitude doesn’t wait for things to get easier; it grows right in the middle of what’s hard.

🚶‍♀️ Walking Prompt: “Grace in the Fresh Air”

When the house feels heavy and your little one is restless, bundle up and step outside.
The fresh air has a way of quieting what words can’t fix.
Push the stroller slowly — breathe in, breathe out — and let the rhythm of your steps remind you that you’re not alone in this moment.

God is in the crisp breeze, in your baby’s soft sighs, in the world gently carrying on around you.
You don’t have to have everything figured out.
    Just walk.
Let peace meet you where you are.

“Be still and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

    Gratitude Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of this child and the quiet moments that slow me down.
When I feel weary or unsure, remind me that You are near — steady and patient, even when I am not.
Help me see Your grace in the small things — the breeze, the laughter, the love that grows between each step.
    Amen.

    🍠 Sweet Potato Bread

A Taste of Comfort and Grace

There’s something sacred about the smell of bread baking on a cool fall day — it fills the home with warmth and quiet gratitude. Sweet potatoes remind me of how God takes what’s humble and turns it into something beautiful. The same way He softens our hearts, He sweetens our seasons.

“He fills the hungry with good things.” — Luke 1:53

    🥄 Ingredients

    • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour (or half whole-wheat for a heartier loaf)
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • ½ teaspoon baking powder
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
    • ¼ teaspoon ginger
    • 1 cup mashed cooked sweet potato (about 1 medium potato)
    • ½ cup brown sugar or coconut sugar
    • ⅓ cup olive oil or melted butter
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • ¼ cup milk or almond milk
    • Optional: ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts, or a sprinkle of oats on top

    🌀 Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
    2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and spices.
    3. In another bowl, mix sweet potato, sugar, oil, eggs, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
    4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry, stirring gently until just combined. (Don’t overmix — tender hearts and tender bread both need a light touch!)
    5. Pour into the loaf pan, smooth the top, and bake for 45–55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
    6. Cool 10 minutes in the pan, then move to a rack. Enjoy warm with a drizzle of honey or a bit of butter.

🌿 A quiet moment to breath:

As your bread rises, take a quiet moment to pray:

“Lord, thank You for the sweetness that comes from small beginnings — for the way You nourish my body and soul.”

    Walking Prompt:

While it bakes, step outside for a short walk. Notice the smells of fall — earth, leaves, and warmth — and give thanks for the simple blessings that fill your day.

“With gratitude and grace — Stephanie”🌴

  • Love Is a Choice

    📖 Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:1–13

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” — 1 Corinthians 13:13

    📖 Scripture Cross-Reference: Galatians 5:22

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…”

    🌿 Reflection

Love gives life meaning — not the fleeting kind we see on screens or hear in songs, but the kind that reaches deep, steady, and true.

It’s in the laughter of a child that reminds us of innocence.
It’s in the hug of a friend who shows up before we call.
It’s in the comfort of a familiar voice that says, “I’m here.”

    But love isn’t always easy.
The love Jesus calls us to — agape love — asks us to love even those who may not love us back. It stretches our hearts beyond what feels fair, beyond what’s comfortable. And that’s where we begin to look more like Him.

Without the Holy Spirit, we can’t love this way.
    It’s not natural — it’s spiritual.
It’s a fruit that grows in us only when we stay rooted in God.
When we choose patience instead of irritation, forgiveness instead of pride, compassion instead of indifference — we are bearing His fruit.

So if love feels hard, you’re not doing it wrong. You’re being refined.
And each time you choose love anyway, you are becoming more like Jesus.

🚶‍♀️ Walking Prompt – “Choosing Love Anyway”

As you walk today, think of someone who may be difficult to love — someone who has hurt, misunderstood, or distanced themselves from you.
Pray for them quietly as you walk.
Ask God to soften your heart and fill you with His Spirit — not because it’s easy, but because it’s what God commands of us and it’s holy.

    💬 Reflection Question

Who is God asking me to love — not because they deserve it, but because He first loved me?

    🙏 Prayer

Lord, thank You for loving me in all my imperfection.
Teach me to love with the same grace You give — steady, patient, and kind.
When it’s hard, remind me that love is not a feeling but a choice empowered by Your Spirit.
Help me love without expecting anything in return, because that is when I am most like You.
    Amen.

    🍒 Mom’s Corner – Moving Toward Maturity

“Therefore, leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God.”
    Hebrews 6:1–3 (NASB)

    🌿 Reflection:

Sometimes growth means letting go – not of faith, but of fear. These verses remind us that we can’t live our entire walk with God at the starting line. He invites us to move forward — to mature beyond regret and live with renewed faith.

As moms, we often replay mistakes — words spoken in exhaustion, moments we wish we could redo. But God’s message is clear: don’t stay stuck in yesterday’s sorrow. Repentance is the root, not the fruit. Once planted, it gives rise to faith that flourishes — alive, hopeful, and anchored in grace.

Like the tart sweetness of cranberries blended with something nourishing, God takes the sharp edges of our past and turns them into something new — refreshing and full of life.
