2 Timothy 4:7
āI have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.ā
There comes a point in any long journey of faith ā and especially in a 21-day walking challenge ā where something shifts.
Not in your legs⦠but in your heart
Under the Palm Tree⢠Devotional

Some days we stride with purpose.
Other days we drag ourselves out the door, pour coffee like medicine, and whisper, āLord⦠I donāt know how much I have left to give today.ā
If thatās you ā youāre not alone.
šæ The Race That Refines Us
Paul writes that he has ākept the faith,ā but he doesnāt pretend the race was easy.
Faith is fought for.
Endurance is battled for.
Perseverance is shaped through resistance.
Walking with God is often less like a gentle stroll and more like a long-distance race where our strength runs out, but His never does.
Thatās where refinement begins.
Ruth understood this too.
She didnāt step into a peaceful season ā she stepped into grief, loss, uncertainty, and unfamiliar territory.
Yet she stayed faithful.
She kept walking.
She clung to God even when she didnāt have clarity.
Ruthās entire story is one long testimony of a woman refined.
šæ A Moment of Honesty
When I look back at those early years of motherhood ā 36 years ago now ā I can barely recognize the woman I was. I was young, and my stomach lived in a constant knot. I worked full time, hurried from daycare pickups to weekend outings, and shouldered everything on my own. I became a single mother before my baby was even a year old. Somewhere in that whirlwind, I whispered a promise to God that I would give my child all I hadāevery ounce of love, strength, and devotion.
What I didnāt know back thenāand only recognize nowāis that my wholehearted devotion should have begun with God. Not because He demanded anything from me, but because without Him I was running on empty: fear, pressure, and survival mode. I adored my child⦠but I carried the weight like a woman unaware that she, too, was held.
Grief refined me.
Motherhood refined me.
Life refined me.
And in every season, God shaped me ā slowly, gently ā into a woman who sees differently now.
šæ When Tears Become Prayers
Sometimes refinement comes through moments when the tears sit so deep in your chest you can hardly breathe.
When your prayers feel wordless.
When exhaustion presses against your ribs.
Scripture tells us:
āThe Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.ā
ā Romans 8:26
Even when we cannot pray,
even when we do not know how,
God still bends low to carry us.
This is what makes you refined ā
not perfection,
not strength,
not accomplishmentā¦
but your willingness to keep walking when life asks more than you think you have to give.
šæ You Are Stronger Than You Know
If you are reading this on Day 27,
you have done something holy:
You have kept going.
You have walked through days when your heart was heavy.
You have walked through days when your mind was loud.
You have walked through days when your spirit was weary.
And yet⦠here you are.
This is refinement.
This is faith.
This is transformation.
You are becoming a woman who finishes the race ā
not in your own strength,
but in His.
šæ Walking Prompt for Today
Walk slowly and gently.
Breathe deeply.
Pray this with each step:
āLord, refine me.
Strengthen me.
Walk with me.ā
Let your walk become a soft offering,
a reminder that God meets you in every step you take.
šæ Reflection
Where has God refined you through motherhood, hardship, loss, or seasons where you carried too much alone?
What part of your story looks different in hindsight because grace was shaping you?
šæ Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for refining me through the hardest and holiest parts of life.
Thank You for walking with me in the seasons I felt overwhelmed, unseen, or unsure.
Strengthen my steps.
Purify my heart.
Teach me to give You the 100% that I once tried to manage alone.
Refine me into a woman who keeps the faith ā
and finishes the race with You beside me.
Amen.
š“
Keeping the faith, finishing the race,
ā Stephanie
