Scripture:
“To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.” — Proverbs 8:13
“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” — Proverbs 16:18
Reflection:
The morning feels heavy, still, like the air before a storm. Mist clings to the trees, and even the birds seem quieter — as if creation itself holds its breath. Pride is a sin like that: quiet, invisible, and patient. It doesn’t announce itself in the beginning. It slips in softly, dressed as confidence, reason, or self-reliance, until we no longer hear the voice of humility that once kept us close to God.
Scripture doesn’t treat pride as a small flaw; it names it for what it is — the root of rebellion, the seed that sprouted in Eden, the downfall of kings and nations. It blinds us not because we are strong, but because we forget our dependence on the One who gives every breath.
Hebrews reminds us that “the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword… it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) It pierces the hidden corners where pride lives — the quiet comparisons, the need to be right, the resistance to correction.
And yet, even in conviction, there is mercy. God reveals our pride not to shame us, but to free us.
Humility is the key that unlocks His grace — the posture of a heart that bows, not in weakness, but in wisdom.
When we humble ourselves, we make room for His presence again. The weight lifts. The storm breaks. Peace returns.
Walking Prompt:
As you walk today, slow your pace. Notice how the ground supports every step without question. Reflect on the strength found in surrender. Whisper, “Lord, make my heart teachable.”
Prayer:
Father, expose the pride I do not see. Replace it with a spirit of humility that reflects Your Son. Help me to walk in grace, not greatness. Amen.
